SCT Learning Lab is designed to provide ongoing training and supervision in Schema Couples Therapy as well as community for Schema Couples Therapists. Each session will provide some training and resources, as well as time to workshop complex cases in a small group setting. All sessions will be on Thursdays 12:30-2pm Canberra time on ZOOM and will be recorded to view later if you are unable to attend. Group is limited to 10 participants.
SESSION 1: STARTING IMAGERY WITH COUPLES (March 26) Imagery is one of the most powerful interventions in Schema Couples Therapy, but is also one of the most daunting. We will look at different kinds of imagery for different stages of couples therapy and different levels of safety. Bring your questions nd challenges in using imagery with couples to this learning lab!
SESSION 2: USING THE BODY IN COUPLES THERAPY (April 16) Couples are full of words, stories, complaints and criticisms. How can we use the body to get beneath the and build a more healing connection? This learning lab will focus on 3 key ways to bring the body into couples therapy - noticing the way the body speaks, walking towards, and using touch to build connection and soothe distress.
SESSION 3: CHAIR WORK WITH COUPLES (May 21) Bring your challenging couples and we will "mode it out"! This is going to be a practical learning lab where we work on putting modes in chairs and bypassing techniques for both in the room and out of the room. We might even work on our own coping modes!
SESSION 4: AUTONOMY AND COMPETENCE SCHEMAS IN COUPLES (June 18) We are often thinking about big schemas like Abandonment, Mistrust/Abuse and Defectiveness in SCT, but what about Failure, Enmeshment, Vulnerability to Harm and Dependence/Incompetence? Ruth will provide a case presentation that focussed on those schemas and the kinds of interventions that worked (and those that didn't!).
SESSION 5: FRAMING LONGER TERM WORK WITH COUPLES (July 3) When you have been doing Schema Couples Therapy for a chile with couples, how do you keep the therapeutic frame? Ruth will share a handout for longer term couples and we pool our experience with longer term work.
