Exploring a typical mode clash using imagery
The role play involved a couple, Susie and Zeb (played by 2 great schema therapists!). This exploratory role play was done early therapy and was possible because the couple were safe enough with each other that they could tolerate some intense affect in the room and also safe enough to share vulnerably. If the couple were more fragile or there was less safety you could do a silent guided imagery (see below), and ask each person to only share what they felt comfortable sharing. Also below is the mode clash card that we could draw up following the role play.
